ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:  Individuals are often compared to threads that make up the larger tapestry of humanity.  As fiber artists, we often make it our mission to tease apart or somehow alter any given material in order to examine it and then re-make it into objects and images that please, that provoke, that communicate a message we feel passionate about. In some cases, it’s the message that carries us along; in others, it’s the sheer joy or challenge of working with the materials we’ve chosen.  Whether we are using traditional materials and techniques or exploring new territory, our materials and how we express ourselves are as various as we are as individuals. Some of us are “unbound” by convention and expectation; some are compelled simply to “make.” All of us continually surprise ourselves and others by how we have chosen to spend our time in that effort to create. “Unbound” is the expression and celebration of our diversity and our community.

Rooms With A View

WHAT: Now in its 23rd year, ROOMS with A VIEW (RWAV) is the premier design event in Fairfield County created by the Dean Of American Design, Mr. Albert Hadley. Each year, 12 designers are invited to create 6’ x 8' vignettes. These mini-rooms (8-foot ceilings and three walls) are staged in the library and great hall of the historic, stone, Gothic Revival style Southport Congregational Church in Southport, CT.  RWAV is unique in that it is not a showcase in the traditional sense.  It is a sound bite version of a designer show house.  The designers are challenged to get an idea across in a small amount of space.
WHEN: The show opens to the public on Friday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m.  Some of the highlights of the weekend include the Gala Party Friday evening, featuring cocktails and fabulous hors d’oeuvres by the top restaurants of Fairfield County, with an entertaining live and silent auction, as well as a fabulous topiary workshop from Westport's own, Gilbertie's Nursery, accompanied by a Bloody Mary bar.  Saturday, November 11th, the doors will open at 10:00 a.m. and features two special events.  Our popular Luncheon by Festivities has a new element this year, ""Broadway Showtunes" luncheon and the evening will
feature an exceptional Champagne Tour of the Vignettes and Gourmet Dinner by Paci Restaurant.  On Sunday, November 12th at 2 p.m., a Gingerbread House Workshop will be held in the main tent along with an extra-special Bloody Mary Bar that will open at 11.
ROOMS with a VIEW is open to the public on Friday & Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m..  In addition to our wonderful designers, we have The Shops at ROOMS with a VIEW, with more than 30 artists and vendors from around the country who are selling their art, crafts, antiques and decorative accessories.
